Welcome to a place of stories, dance, and art. A land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas. A wondrous place whose boundaries are only that of the imagination.
Welcome to The Twyla Zone
I am and have been a dancer for several years most of my life. I offer instruction and entertainment opportunities, specializing in ethnic and western rhythms. I can incorporate music and movement into teaching children and adults.
TwylaZone hand crafts unique dance costuming and art objects. You can see these beautiful creations at the Great Plains Renaissance Faire in Wichita KS.
I have approximately 50 equivalent years experience in theatre and dance, in performing on stage and also as back stage crew. I have been a certified teaching artist with Arts Partners Wichita for more than 20 years, working with students K-12. I have created and presented programs that integrate the performing arts such as storytelling, theatre, mime and dance, with the school curriculum of STEM, social studies and history. To become a certified teaching artist, I have gone through approximately 100 hours of training. This includes training in program development for teachers and teaching children with disabilities including physical abilities, behavioral and learning challenges.
In 2006, I became a certified artist-in-residence with Kansas Wolf Trap, which is a national organization that supports emergent literary in early childhood education for students birth to pre-kindergarden. This certification involved several hours of training in developing unique programs, professional development for teacher and providing performing arts experiences for young children.
My contracts with Arts Partners Wichita and Kansas Wolf Trap renew annually after a thorough review of the success of my unique programs. Any programs not producing proven results is not renewed.
